In Pittsburgh and other parts of the country, ear repairs to address gauged ear holes have become more common. Some individuals with gauged ears ultimately chose to reverse this procedure and close the hole caused by gauged earrings. Whatever the case, earlobe surgery provides a quick and easy solution to repair stretched, torn, or split earlobes.

The following provides some additional information on earlobe repair surgery. If you have questions, or if you would like to schedule a consultation to talk more about this procedure, please contact us today.

Your consultation with Dr. Paul Leong

During your consultation, Dr. Leong will determine if you are a good candidate for earlobe repair. He will talk to you in detail about the procedure, show you before and after photos, and answer any questions or concerns that you may have. Since he only specializes in procedures of the face and neck, you can be assured you are receiving treatment from a focused and skilled facial plastic surgeon.

What should I expect during treatment?

Before starting our Pittsburgh earlobe repair procedure, you and Dr. Leong will discuss possible side effects and take photos to compare before and after results. The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes, requires only local anesthesia, and can be done in our Pittsburgh, Wexford, Sewickley or Greensburg location. Patients seldom require any sort of bandage, though Dr. Leong does advise using antibiotic ointment for about a week. The sutures he uses for this procedure are absorbable and will dissolve on their own, so no need to come back for suture removal.

Dr. Leong is fabulous! I had my earlobes repaired, and two weeks later, you would be hard pressed to tell where he made the repairs. I wished that I would have had my ears repaired years ago, but I am glad that I waited until I found Dr. Leong to complete the procedure. I am extremely happy with the outcome!

Review from RateMds.com

Will I be left with a scar after surgery?

Anytime an incision is made in the skin, a less-than-perfect scar is possible. However, Dr. Leong works hard to precisely realign the skin edges so the scar is barely noticeable. His ultimate goal in surgery is to naturally improve the face and neck without any indication that work has been done.

Is earlobe reconstruction painful?

Most patients find that this procedure is not painful. If you feel some discomfort after the procedure, you can take an over the counter pain reliever, which should suffice.

Does insurance cover the cost of an earlobe repair?

No, typically insurance does not cover the cost of cosmetic ear lobe surgery in Pittsburgh. Anytime you are undergoing a procedure for cosmetic enhancement, insurance cannot be used. However, we do offer CareCredit® financing which gives patients low monthly payment options.

What is the cost of an earlobe repair in Pittsburgh?

The cost of an in-office earlobe repair in Pittsburgh ranges from $1,000 to $1,950, and the cost for gauged earlobe repair ranges from $1,250 to $2,950. These prices are determined by how much tissue needs to be removed, how complex the case is, and whether only one ear or both ears are being repaired. A customized plan will be created for each patient during their thorough consultation with Dr. Leong.
