Restylane® is often injected into the nasolabial folds, laugh lines, lipstick lines, corners of the mouth, marionette lines, lips (see Lip Augmentation), and underneath the eyes (see Tear Trough treatment). It is non-animal based, which means it is natural and can be broken down by the body.

The following will give some information about Restylane® and the treatment process. If you have questions, or if you would like to schedule a consultation here at Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery, please contact us today.

The History of Restylane®

Restylane® has been used for more than 16 years in over 65 countries across the globe. Researchers discovered that as people age, their skin loses the capacity to bind to water, leading to dry, aged skin. Hyaluronic acid, a natural ingredient located in the dermis (middle layer of the skin), aids in the preservation of water. When the skin is able to retain more water, the result is fuller, healthier and younger looking skin. Restylane® is one of the most researched fillers on the market and is considered safe and effective when administered by an experienced injector.

How does Restylane® work?

Restylane® is composed of hyaluronic acid – a natural substance in the body that acts as a cushion or lubricant. Restylane® works by stimulating the growth of collagen and adding fullness and volume to folds and wrinkles.

This clear gel formula is injected into creases and wrinkles and works immediately by bringing water and fullness to the surface.

Dr. Paul Leong is my absolutely favorite physician! I am a repeat customer for his facial treatments. I have had Ultherapy®, Botox®, Sculptra® and Restylane®. Love that he does all procedures himself and gives a thorough and enjoyable pre-treatment discussion. I certainly can see results and they have been long-lasting.

What instructions should I follow after Restylane treatment?

Approximately 6 hours after treatment, Dr. Leong suggests avoiding alcohol, exercise and touching the treated area. If there is redness or swelling, avoid sun exposure, UV lamps and extreme cold. Dr. Leong also recommends that you stop taking the following one week prior and one week after treatment to reduce the chance of bleeding and bruising:

  • Aspirin
  • Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Fish oil
  • High doses of Vitamin E

Who is a good candidate for Restylane®?

A good candidate for Restylane® is someone in good health who is wanting to correct wrinkles above the lip, reduce marionette lines, smile/laugh lines, tear trough deformity, or wishes to volumize lips. Restylane® can also be a great non-surgical solution for patients looking to add volume and fullness to thinning, hollow areas of the face. It is one of the most effective and widely used fillers on the market.

What is the cost of Restylane® injections in Pittsburgh?

The cost of Restylane® injections differ in various parts of the country and also depends on who is performing the injection. The cost of a dermal filler like Restylane® can typically range from $600 to $1,200 per syringe. Dr. Leong and his staff will perform a detailed consultation to determine each patient’s particular desires and goals. After formulating these goals, Dr. Leong and his team will advise you on a treatment plan and cost. Please reach out to our office at 412-693-6475 if you have additional questions.

Can I combine Restylane® treatment with Botox®, Dysport® and Ultherapy®?

Yes, Restylane® is often combined with other treatments, such as Dysport®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, or Ultherapy®. BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® and dermal fillers target wrinkles and creases in different ways. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® restrict muscle movement, which allows the skin to smooth and even out. Fillers “fill in” wrinkles and creases and restore lost volume. Ultherapy® works to lift and tone sagging skin for a more youthful and firm appearance. You can get additional benefits and take years off your face by combining all three treatments together.
