Are You a Good Candidate for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

February 19, 2018

Not all noses are created equally and everyone’s nose has its own unique shape to it. Luckily, there is an option to contour the nose without having to go under the scalpel. Non-surgical rhinoplasty has become very popular recently due to the fact that it saves time, money, and discomfort as compared with rhinoplasty surgery.

This dermal filler (Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Juvederm, Radiesse) based procedure is not for everyone, however. Non-surgical rhinoplasty can achieve outstanding results in patients whose nose veers more to one side or the other, someone who wants to camouflage a dorsal hump in the middle of their nose, or someone who’s looking to raise the bridge of their nose for a straighter and smoother appearance. Non-surgical rhinoplasty can also be useful to enhance the definition of the nasal tip and even produce so called “tip defining points” there were previously only achieved through surgery. However, for patients with functional issues (i.e. requiring a septoplasty) or patients who are interested in dramatically narrowing their nose, a non-surgical rhinoplasty would not be the right option.

Although the dermal filler is technically adding volume to the nose, the final outcome is generally a nose that appears more refined as well as smaller. Just like many women contour their face with makeup, the idea is to alter the way light highlights the nose. In the hands of an experienced facial plastic surgeon, non-surgical rhinoplasty can achieve beautiful results. The safety and comfort of a non-surgical rhinoplasty can be enhanced with microcannulas as opposed to needles. Dr. Leong never injects dermal filler into the nose (or any other location on the face) with needles, only microcannulas. This technique is increasingly common in leading markets around the US and elsewhere in the world, but is still fairly uncommon in Western Pennsylvania. The use of a microcannula compared to a needle can drastically reduce the risks of bruising and can result in a superior outcome.
