Why choose Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery

for BOTOX® in Pittsburgh, PA

If you Google “Botox in Pittsburgh,” you’ll find many local providers of BOTOX® Cosmetic and other injectables like Dysport or dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. Injections are now readily available everywhere you turn. You can get them at physician offices, the dentist, med spas, day spas, national franchise injection shops, and salons. But, just because you can get BOTOX® Cosmetic at a local salon while waiting for your nails to dry after a mani-pedi doesn’t mean you should. Especially if the end result and look matters to you.

Here are a few reasons why Dr. Paul Leong and the staff at Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery believes we’re the best choice in Pittsburgh for BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, and dermal filler injections.

Why choose Sistine?

#1 – Training, knowledge & experience matter

Dr. Leong is a facial specialist who is integrally involved in the care of any patient who walks through his door.

No “cosmetic physician” – for example, a primary care doctor, dermatologist, OB/GYN, dentist, or another type of specialist offering injections as an ancillary service – will understand the anatomy and muscles of the face quite like Dr. Leong does.

Understand that while these treatments are safe and advertised as “minimally invasive” or “non-surgical,” they aren’t necessarily “risk free.” There’s significant risk involved when you opt to get these injections at a day spa, salon, or those in-home BOTOX® parties.

While most registered nurse injectors are well trained and fully competent, there are many injectors out there with very limited training. Even worse, they’re injecting patients without a physician or facial specialist present to oversee their work.

This type of injector doesn’t know facial anatomy or the nuances of each product like Dr. Leong and the team at Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery do.

We also pass our knowledge onto you. When you entrust us with your face, you won’t be left in the dark as to what we’re doing or why we’re doing it. We thoroughly explain:

  • The type of injectable we’re injecting
  • Specific parts of the face we’re targeting
  • BOTOX® dosage being administered
  • Pros and cons of BOTOX®
  • Before & after care
  • Total cost of your treatment

Why choose Sistine?

#2 – You don’t want cookie-cutter BOTOX®

Many injectors have no deep understanding of facial anatomy and musculature. This often results in a one-size-fits-all injection technique from patient to patient and a cookie-cutter approach to BOTOX® injections.

The problem with this is no two faces are alike. There’s a changing variable from one face to another. One patient’s eyebrow could be lower, higher, or straighter than the last patient injected. Foreheads, facial shapes, and the severity of wrinkles and fines lines vary from person to person.

A “natural look” is the key to good BOTOX®. It can never be achieved if someone’s injection technique is the same from face to face.

As a double-board-certified specialist in facial plastic surgery, Dr. Leong has gained extensive knowledge of the anatomy of the human face and how it ages. He personally injects a large number of patients at his practice and oversees the work of his aestheticians and RNs.

Dr. Leong is a facial cosmetic surgeon, which means he literally knows the human face inside and out. His Pittsburgh BOTOX injection technique is customized to accommodate the uniqueness of each face he touches. He fully understands each product’s mechanism of action, the particulars of proper dosing, and can eloquently explain the hows and whys of treatment.

You’re going to be much happier with the end result when you choose a highly specialized trained professional like Dr. Leong. The final result will be much softer and more natural looking. This is because he treats you as an individual and his expertise, artistic eye, and mastery of this highly technique-sensitive treatment cannot be matched.

Why choose Sistine?

#3 – A plastic surgeon can inject BOTOX or recommend another treatment

Typically, med spas and other providers of BOTOX® Cosmetic have a very limited service menu. If you need something beyond wrinkle fillers, they’ll need to refer you elsewhere. When you visit Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery, both non-surgical and surgical options are on the table. Dr. Leong can objectively recommend the correct non-surgical or surgical solution to your problem based on an examination and his vast knowledge of all available treatment options.

For instance, if you’re unhappy with the appearance of forehead wrinkles, both BOTOX® Cosmetic or a forehead lift surgery can help. Oftentimes, one of these options might work better for one patient than another. Only a plastic surgeon like Dr. Leong can reliably determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for BOTOX® or if surgery would be best in your case. By contrast, the typical medspa provider will always recommend BOTOX® because that’s all they can do.

“I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.” - Abraham Maslow – American psychologist

Administering BOTOX® to a patient who needs a forehead lift will result in heavy eyelids and droopy brows. Not a good look. A plastic surgeon like Dr. Leong has the knowledge and experience to make that important distinction as to whether a non-surgical treatment or surgery is best for you. This hybrid approach at Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery increases the likelihood of you having a great outcome.

Why choose Sistine?

#4 – Dr. Leong stays on top of cosmetic treatment trends

Dr. Leong travels the world lecturing at facial aesthetic conferences and continues to guide the scientific advancement of facial plastic surgery and cosmetic treatments. He’s worked alongside some of the very best facial specialists in the world.

When you choose Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery for dermal fillers or BOTOX® in Pittsburgh, you’re aligning yourself with someone at the forefront of cutting-edge treatments—someone who is aware of innovative treatments and emerging trends before everyone’s reading about them or seeing them discussed on Dr. Oz. For example, the advanced use of blunt tip microcannulas (rather than sharp needles) to inject fillers have become standard practice at Sistine—as have the latest injection techniques that make you look refreshed rather than puffed up and unnatural.

#5 – injections by our aesthetician or RN can lower BOTOX® costs

When administered in the right environment, by or under the supervision of a facial specialist, injections are safe and highly-effective cosmetic treatments. However, despite being relatively cost-efficient, they aren’t in everyone’s budget. This has many people choosing to sacrifice environment, safety, and expertise to get a better bargain in a pursuit for affordable BOTOX®.

What they ultimately find is anything but a bargain. Their faces become test subjects to novices lacking proper training and technique. Bad technique and practice bring about unnecessary complications and a look they just aren’t happy with.

Dr. Leong has personally taught all of Sistine’s nurses and aestheticians everything he knows about BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal filler injections. They’ve performed countless injections under his watchful eye and supervision.

Their specialized training and scope of practice means you can trust them with your face just as much as Dr. Leong, all while lowering the cost of your BOTOX® or dermal filler treatment without sacrificing quality of work or safety.

If any patient who receives a treatment from one of Dr. Leong’s injectors has a question or concern, he is always nearby to lend his expertise.

Furthermore, none of the aestheticians or nurse injectors at Dr. Leong’s practice are financially incentivized to treat you. There is no financial reward to suggest “just one more syringe.” Think about that – it’s very important.

Dr. Leong and his team of nurse injectors always take the whole patient into account and strive to give you the best imaginable result – not push more treatment to make a little more money. If you sense a very salesy atmosphere at local medspas and nationally franchised injections shops – now you know why.

FAQ

How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic contains botulinum toxin type-A, which works by temporarily paralyzing and relaxing muscles, creating a softer and younger-looking appearance.

The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic will usually be noticeable within a few days, but the full effect will take approximately 2 weeks.

Since BOTOX® Cosmetic lasts approximately 4 months, it is important to make recurring appointments several times a year to maintain youthful results.

Who is a good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?

A good candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic is anyone who wants to minimize forehead or smoker lines around the upper lip, crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and lines around the mouth or neck.

Both men and women are excellent candidates and can often benefit greatly from the effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Dr. Leong will meet with you for an in-person consultation to determine whether this procedure is the best option for your individual needs.

Is there BOTOX® for men?

Yes, more men than ever before are getting Botox injections. In this era of cell phone pics and social media, more and more men are paying attention to their looks. Botox is a means to proactively ward off wrinkles and an aged-appearance. Men are also seeking Botox injections to refresh trouble spots and boost self-esteem and confidence – for both personal and professional reasons.

This trend has been dubbed by the media as “Brotox.” Click here to learn more about our Brotox in Pittsburgh.

What other areas on the face can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used as an alternative to browlift surgery – a so-called “BOTOX® browlift.” When injected adjacent to the eyebrows, it relaxes the muscles that pull down on the eyebrows, typically resulting in an opened and refreshed look without the “hooded” effect caused by heavy eyelids. This non-surgical treatment is considered quick, safe and convenient. Some patients get a fairly impressive browlift with BOTOX® Cosmetic; for others, the lift is quite modest.

BOTOX® is also used to treat the mentalis muscle (muscle over the chin) when it causes wrinkles in that area (sometimes called “pebble chin” or “orange peel” skin).

BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be injected into the lower eyelid, resulting in a more open eye and more wrinkle-free lower eyelid skin.

Finally, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be injected adjacent to the nose to modestly lower the height of the upper lip when you smile, reducing the “gummy smile” appearance the bothers some patients.

Lastly, consistent use of BOTOX® can have a preventative effect. By reducing the amount of excessive facial expression, facial lines and wrinkles can be prevented from forming in the first place – often a very attractive goal for patients interested in slowing the onset of the classic signs of facial aging.

Other uses for BOTOX®

BOTOX® has also been proven to temporarily alleviate excessive sweating in the underarms (hyperhidrosis) and palms, as well as reduce the effects of migraines and Cervical Dystonia (CD).

The history of BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic was first used in the 1980s for medical purposes and then later for aesthetic improvement in 2002 when doctors noticed its impact on lines and wrinkles.

Since 2002 roughly 11.8 people have been injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic. BOTOX® treatments are generally considered to be safe and effective – as long as they’re administered by an expert injector.

Does BOTOX® Cosmetic have any side effects?

Possible side effects of BOTOX® treatments include, but aren’t limited to: redness, bruising, bleeding, inflammation, numbness, infection, an allergic reaction, drooping of the eyelid, and a temporary headache.

To reduce the chance of bruising, stop the use of aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, St. Johns Wort, alcohol consumption, and any blood thinning medications one week prior to your appointment.

Instructions after BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment

It is recommended that patients refrain from exercising the day of a BOTOX® procedure. They also need to abstain from touching or manipulating the treated area.

There is usually no downtime necessary after treatment, and patients can often return back to work immediately.

Do BOTOX® Cosmetic injections hurt?

Most patients report feeling a slight stinging or burning sensation when injected and may feel tender after injections, but this is only temporary.

Dr. Leong and the nurse injectors at Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery are experienced and skillful – they’ll always take the time to ensure a patient is comfortable, and that pain or discomfort is minimal.

Can I combine BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment with dermal fillers and Ultherapy®?

Yes, BOTOX® is often combined with Ultherapy® and other facial fillers such as Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, lip fillers, or Sculptra® Aesthetic.

Combining treatments helps to target both lines and creases, often leading to a more enhanced and longer-lasting result.

What is the cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections in Pittsburgh?

The cost of a BOTOX® procedure generally varies due to the injector’s experience as well as their geographic location.

The price of BOTOX® can typically be calculated one of two ways: per area or by the unit.

The three most common areas to get BOTOX® injections are the forehead, glabella, and crow’s feet.

Around the United States, the average cost of BOTOX® injections per area ranges from $200-$350.

Can BOTOX® be used for preventative purposes?

Yes, BOTOX® injections are proven to be very effective in delaying the development of wrinkles in the glabella, forehead, and around the eyes (crow’s feet) if patients start treatments before their wrinkles set in.

It is relatively common for patients to start getting BOTOX® treatments as early as their mid-20s despite the fact the standard used to be waiting until fine lines and wrinkles were already established on one’s face to begin treatments.

These botulinum toxin treatments must be maintained every 3-4 months to reap the full benefits of the preventiveness. This is because the muscles need to remain in the weakened state which will, therefore, make the lines and wrinkles less visible as you get older.

The essence of this approach is to treat these facial lines when they are very slight or in some cases barely visible, so you never develop them in the first place!

For patients who prefer “an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure” philosophy, this can be an attractive option.

When should I start getting BOTOX® injections?

Wondering when is the best time in the aging process for you to start Botox Cosmetic or Dysport? Dr. Leong can advise you further on this during your consultation. There are many factors that vary per individual. An in-person assessment and consultation is the only way to accurately answer this question.

Can I get Botox for bruxism (teeth grinding)?

Many of our patients come to Sistine Facial Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh to help alleviate symptoms of bruxism.

Those who struggle with bruxism often grind their teeth at night, but this habit can also be a result of stress and anxiety.

Excessive teeth grinding can lead to a painful jaw and an overdeveloped masseter muscle.

We use Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® injections to not only weaken and relax the masseter muscle, but also to slim the lower portion of the face.

This technique was first pioneered in Korea and elsewhere in Asia, but can be very useful for patients in the United States as well.

Those with bruxism often notice that their jawline has become more prominent or masculine after years of clenching down so tightly.

Patients should return for Botox® or Dysport® injections every 3-4 months for the best results. If injections are not maintained, the masseter muscle will inevitably re-strengthen and return to baseline.

It’s important to note that symptoms like jaw pain can be quite involved and treatments with Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® injections should not substitute consultation with your dentist.
