Can I Exercise After My Botox® Cosmetic Injections?

May 16, 2017

Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport injections are both very common procedures in our 5 Pittsburgh offices. While these injections require little to no downtime, there are still a couple of post-care recommendations that we always provide to our patients.

Prior to the actual injections, our patients will go through a consultation process where they will be assessed and we will review a patient-specific treatment plan with them. Our staff will also review an informed consent document with the patient and provide them with any relevant post-care instructions.

Many of our patients ask if and when they can resume their normal exercise regimen after receiving Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport injections. It is recommended that all patients refrain from all forms of exercising the day of the injections. We also tell our patients to avoid rubbing, touching, and manipulating the injection site.

Both exercise and manipulation of the area might cause the Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport volume to migrate to “unwanted” muscles outside of the targeted treatment area.  This is pretty unlikely, but we want to optimize the quality of your result.

Dr. Leong, our Nurse, or Esthetician will review all post-care treatment directions in depth during your patient consultation.
