Botox® Cosmetic Brow Lift For Aging “Sagging Brows”
Our patients often come to us looking for a solution or quick fix for sagging brows. With age, the skin begins to droop which can alter our expressions at rest or our expressions in motion. When the skin starts to sag, it can ultimately make us appear as if we are angry, sad, or even just plain old exhausted.
While Forehead Lift Surgery (also known as Browlift Surgery) is a more permanent way to elevate the brows, some patients are not thrilled about the idea of going under the knife. Many patients are looking for a less expensive method with minimal to no downtime. Fortunately, Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport can usually achieve the same “raised brow” appearance that most aging individuals are seeking. Botox® Cosmetic injections for Non-Surgical Brow Lift work by paralyzing specific facial muscles but allowing other muscles to remain in effect and lift at the same time. Dr. Leong is always careful to note that the Botox browlift can work better for some patients than others. The key concept is that Botox or Dysport is weakening the downward pull of certain muscle. If those muscles are actually pulling down a good bit at rest (when the patient is now making expressions with their face) then the Botox browlift can be quite effective. However, some patient’s muscles are not very active at pulling the brow down at rest, in which case the Botox browlift tends to be less effective. As with so many things in medicine, exact results cannot always be predicted.
Once the Botox® Cosmetic begins to take effect, the results should leave you with less hooding of the eyelid and a more appealing brow arch. We recommend to our patients that they return for Botox® Cosmetic injections every 3 or 4 months to achieve the best, long-lasting results.
