JUVÉDERM® is a facial filler that temporarily softens wrinkles, creases and folds by filling in areas with volume loss. It is composed of hyaluronic acid – a substance that plays a key part in the aging process and has revolutionized the world of fillers. As we age, we lose hyaluronic acid and collagen begins to break down. Injectable fillers like JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® and Perlane® start working immediately to replenish and volumize areas that have lost support and structure due to the aging process. JUVÉDERM® is often injected into wrinkles, creases, folds and other sunken areas of the face to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. Treatment only takes approximately 15 minutes, but the effects can last 6 months or longer.

I inject most of the various fillers available in the marketplace. Our experience is that certain fillers work slightly better in specific areas of the face than others. Furthermore, some patients have a strong preference for a specific filler because they obtained good results with it in the past. For both of these reasons, we like to provide our patients with choices.

I am one of the relatively few plastic surgeons in Pittsburgh who inject JUVÉDERM® with microcannulas to decrease the chance of bruising and swelling. In addition to reducing the likelihood of bruising and other complications, the microcannula technique is more comfortable and often allows for an even better cosmetic result.

Instructions After Treatment

Avoid vigorous exercise, touching the area, or drinking alcohol six hours after JUVÉDERM® injections. Also if you notice swelling or redness at the injection site, avoid hot or extremely cold weather and apply an ice pack to reduce inflammation and puffiness.

What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC?

One of the benefits of JUVÉDERM® is that it is versatile. There are two formulas to choose from: JUVÉDERM® Ultra and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC. Both formulas are very similar, but differ in consistency. JUVÉDERM® Ultra is a more versatile gel that is great for smoothing away wrinkles and folds, contouring the face and filling in lips. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC Plus is a thicker, more robust formula that works well in deep crevices and folds. Both JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC contain lidocaine, which makes the injection more comfortable.

Is JUVÉDERM® suitable for persons of color and different skin tones?

Yes, JUVÉDERM® is FDA approved and considered safe and effective for the treatment of all skin types. Since it is injected below the epidermis, it does not affect the upper layer of skin that contains cells responsible for skin pigmentation; therefore there is very little risk of hyperpigmentation or hyper-tropic scarring.

Do JUVÉDERM® Injections hurt?

Pain tolerance varies for each patient. However, I find that most patients find the procedure extremely tolerable, with very little discomfort. When injected by a skilled and experienced injector, JUVÉDERM® flows easily and smoothly into the skin. Since I perform all of the JUVÉDERM® injections in my Pittsburgh practice, every treatment is done with precision, detail and skill.

What is the cost of JUVÉDERM® injections in Pittsburgh?

The cost of JUVÉDERM® injections varies in different parts of the country and also depends on who is performing the injection. In general, the cost of a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® can range from $600 to $1200 per syringe. Dr. Leong and his staff will perform a detailed consultation to determine each patient’s unique needs and goals. Yes, I often encourage patients to consider more than one procedure depending upon their particular situation and concerns. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are great wrinkle releasers for areas such as the forehead, crows’ feet, lines above the lips and glabellar lines. Ultherapy® provides a great treatment option for those looking to tighten, lift and firm aged, sagging skin.
